POLAND | Study visit by human rights journalists from the Republic of Albania

On 16-18 June, 2014 a delegation of Albanian media representatives, specializing on human rights affairs held a working visit to Warsaw. The group was accompanied by one representative of the Office of the People’s Advocate of Albania (Ombudsman). The purpose of the visit was to share experiences in the area of human rights media coverage and ways of cooperation between the ombudsman and the media. Hence the delegation paid visits to the Polish Press Agency and a chosen radio broadcaster.

Their stay was also an opportunity to show the daily activity of the Human Rights Defender, in particular in the field of administrative and economic law as well as combating torture and other inhumane and degrading treatment (application of OPCAT). The guests were interested in the ombudsman’s cooperation with NGOs, especially those active in the protection of the weakest society groups, therefor a visit to the St. Lazarus Boarding House was organized, where they had the chance to exchange views concerning the situation of homeless people in Poland and Albania.

The delegation held also a meeting with representatives of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) acting within Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
