IOI | Successful 2nd round-table with World Bank held in Washington

There is wide recognition that citizen voice and public accountability are crucial for effective service delivery and that Ombudsman institutions – as part of the broader accountability system – oversee government agencies and serve as bridges between citizens and their respective governments.

This second edition of the roundtable built upon its first version which took place in 2014, and aimed to further enhance a better understanding and raise awareness regarding the work and mandate of Ombudsman institutions, to present current engagement of the World Bank with Ombudsman institutions and to explore possible entry points and potential areas for further mutual cooperation.

This 2nd WB/IOI round-table addressed questions such as how Ombudsman institutions enhance citizen-centric governance, how they contribute to effective public service delivery and how they cooperate with other stakeholders (e.g. civil society or media). Panelists included Mr Peter Tyndall, IOI 2nd Vice-President and Ombudsman of Ireland, Mr Danang Girindrawardana, Chief Ombudsman of Indonesia and IOI Member, Mr Naseer Ahmad Rana, Senior Advisor GGP World Bank and Ms Ulrike Grieshofer, Head of the IOI General Secretariat.
