Parliamentary Ombudsman criticises government agencies for data sharing blame game
In a new report published on 12 January 2011, Parliamentary Ombudsman Ann Abraham criticises three government agencies for collectively failing to put things right when a data sharing mistake led to a woman’s personal and financial information being wrongfully disclosed to her former partner and her child support payments being reduced without her knowledge.

Ombudsman supports military personnel
An active member of the military complained to the Ombudsman regarding the fact that he had made a request to the military unit where he was employed, requiring the concluding of the leasing contract for the apartment that had been assigned to him, but had not received any response by the date on which he turned to the Ombudsman.

Human Rights Symposium held in Barcelona
IOI Europe’s Regional President Rafael Ribó hosted a workshop on human rights challenges, held in Barcelona from 3 – 4 April 2017, to resume the debate on the regression of rights launched a year ago. In light of recent political developments emphasis was particularly put on “Populism? Regression of Rights and the Role of the Ombudsman”. Representatives from IOI member institutions from all over Europe participated at this workshop to discuss and analyse the current situation and the role of the Ombudsman in this regard.

The 9th IOI World Conference held in Stockholm in June 2009 convened 340 delegates and observers from more than 90 countries. Key note addresses were delivered by the former Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr Kofi A. Annan and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms Navanethem Pillay. The I.O.I. is pleased to announce that Diane Welborn, Ombudsman, Joint Office of Citizen Complaints for Dayton, Ohio has been elected as the new Director for the IOI North American Region. Diane Welborn will replace Bill Angrick after his retirement in June 2010.
