Involuntary hospitalized persons with mental and behavioral disorders from now on will be able to take advantage of an independent assessment of their state of mental health. Such a possibility is provided for in the Minister of Health’s procedure, which was approved taking into account the recommendations of the Seimas Ombudsman Augustinas Normantas.

UNESCO’s International Bioethics Committee (IBC) and the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST) have called for a change of course in current COVID-19 vaccination strategies, urging that vaccines be treated as a global public good to ensure they are made equitably available in all countries, and not only to those who bid the highest for these vaccines. Both committees have a long track record in providing ethical guidance on sensitive issues.

Parliament appointed Mr Mokhammad Najih as the new Chairman of the Office of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia. Mr Najih, who succeeds Prof. Rifai in the position as Chairman of the institution, assumed office on 22 February 2021 together with Vice-Chairman Bobby Hamzar Rafinus and nine Ombudsman colleagues, who were all appointed by Parliament for the term 2021-2026.
