IOI | IOI President addresses a special event at the Australian Embassy to the Holy See

It was a privilege for IOI President Chris Field PSM to address the special event, “Tackling abuse and building a culture of safety: the work of independent authorities in Australia”, organised and hosted by Her Excellency, the Australian Ambassador to the Holy See, Ms Chiara Porro, on the occasion of President Field’s visit to Rome and the visit of the Australian eSafety Commissioner, Ms Julie Inman Grant.

President Field addressed distinguished guests, including members of the Pontifical Commisssion for the Protection of Minors, on the jurisdictions of the office of the Western Australian Ombudsman to investigate the reporting of child abuse to his office (from over 4000 organisations), to investigate every child death that occurs in Western Australia and to investigate every family and domestic violence fatality. President Field also discussed the extensive and outstanding work done by his colleagues around the world in tacking abuse and building a culture of safety, with particular emphasis on the rights of women and children.

“I express my sincere thanks to the Ambassador for organising and hosting this event, as well as the excellent contribution of the Australian eSafety Commissioner. The evening was closed by His Honour Neville Owen, former Supreme Court Justice in Western Australia and now a member of the Pontifical Commission” said President Field.
