Following two IOI editions of the successful “Sharpening Your Teeth” training programme held by Ontario Ombudsman André Marin that were attended by 80 participants from all world regions, the General Secretariat is pleased to announce that a new training session will be held from 16 to 19 September 2012 in Vienna, Austria.
This time the training session for investigative ombudsman staff will be conducted by renowned trainers in cooperation with the Edinburgh-based Queen Margaret University (QMU) which has an excellent reputation as a centre for ombudsman and complaint handling practice. The specific IOI edition will be held in English and consists of a three-day training course on complaint assessment, effective investigation, acting on findings, effective communication and reporting. A detailed draft programme that will be developed in cooperation with the IOI Training Committee will be available in a few weeks.
The IOI offers this high-profile training course to IOI member institutions in good standing free of charge. Travel and accommodation costs must be borne by the participants. The IOI and the City of Vienna will fund several scholarships for institutions with limited resources. Scholarships that will be awarded by the IOI Executive Committee include refund for economy airfares as well as accommodation costs.
Further details on programme and scholarships will be published in the IOI newsletter in due time. If you have any further questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact the IOI General Secretariat.
