AUSTRALIA | January news from the Commonwealth Ombudsman

Commonwealth Ombudsman Colin Neave informs about the latest developments and achievement of his office in January 2015 (for more details see PDF below).

Early in the new year the Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman published a report on “Avoiding, acknowledging and fixing mistakes: investigation of a complaint about the Australian Community Pharmacy Authority” which highlights issues of sharing information between agencies that jointly administer a program and their failure to work together to either fix a mistake or, after it could not be fixed, to deal openly with the complainant.

The Commonwealth Ombudsman reports on the achievements made by the office’s international team, which took part in a very successful Twinnig Program with the Ombudsman Commission of Papua New Guinea in December 2014.

Last but not least, the Commonwealth Ombudsman informs about some function changes which includes the handling of complaints about the processing of requests under the Freedom of Information Act from 1 November 2014, the transfer of the tax complaint-handling role from the Commonwealth Ombudsman’s Office to the Inspector-General of Taxation and the possible transition of the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman to the Office of Commonwealth Ombudsman Colin Neave.
