SERBIA | Ombudsman published Annual Report 2012 in English

The Protector of Citizens of the Republic of Serbia published its Annual Report 2012 in English. In total, in 2012 the Protector of Citizens acted upon 4.474 complaints, constituting a significant increase compared to 2011. In the reporting period, the Protector of Citizens established over 15.000 contacts with citizens (apart of complaints).

The Protector of Citizens concluded that human rights situation in Serbia in the previous year was marked by: decrease in the exercise of economic, social and cultural rights of citizens; improvement of some political and civil rights, and simultaneous decrease in the exercise of the others; breaking the vicious circle of omissions in judicial reform; stagnation (at a low level) of adherence to the rule of law; clear demonstration of political will to combat corruption, followed by its trivialization in the media; and the absence of consistent administrative reform, particularly in terms of depolitisation and professionalization, as a precondition for its lawful and proper operation.

The Annual Report in English is now available on the Serbian Ombudsman website.
