HUNGARY | Ombudsman’s newsletter on the situation on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border

In his current newsletter editions, the Hungarian Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, Dr. Ákos Kozma, focuses on the war in Ukraine and he calls for solidarity and the protection of human rights.

In response to the appeal of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary, the volunteer university students who will work in the coming period in the temporary regional office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary in Záhony started their work.

Dr. Ákos Kozma, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary, accompanied by Pol.Col. Zsolt Harhai, Director of the Northern Great Plain Regional Directorate of the National Directorate General of Foreign Police, visited the Fehérgyarmat collection point on March 11, 2022.

During the visit, Dr. Kozma Ákos also handed over to the collection point of Fehérgyarmat the donations - including nappies, toiletries and non perishable food - donated by the staff of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights to help refugees from Ukraine.

On 10 March 2022, Ákos Kozma, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary, held an online consultation with Ms Rosemary Agnew, Scottish Public Services Ombudsman, on the issue of refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine to Hungary.

In this context, the Commissioner reported, inter alia, on the experiences of his visit to the border crossing points of Záhony-Čop and Tiszabecs-Vilok, as well as the collection point of Mándok. On the same day, the Commissioner also held an online meeting with Michelle Macleod, Commissioner of Police Investigations and Review.
