CANADA | ONTARIO WATCHDOG ON CLOSED MEETINGS

The new edition of the e-newsletter of Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin reports on the Ombudsman’s fifth year of investigating public complaints about closed municipal meetings.  Under the Municipal Act, councils, committees and local boards must meet in public, apart from some narrow exceptions. The Open Meeting Law Enforcement Team (OMLET) investigates complaints about closed meetings and the Ombudsman reports on those that violate the Act. As there have been loads of complaints on closed meetings, Andre Marin plans to launch a special Annual Report just for municipal closed meeting complaints.

Additionally the newsletter contains information on the latest “Sharpening Your Teeth” training in Montreal, and on Mr Marin’s speech to students at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Law.
