Moldova | Report on human rights and freedoms in the Republic of Moldova

The Office of the People's Advocate (Ombudsman) of Moldova has published its Ombudsman Report on Human Rights and Freedoms in the Republic of Moldova in 2022. The Report presents essential information from the work of the People's Advocate Office and it is a collection of emergency and planned activities, aimed to support and encourage the national authorities to advance on human rights.

One of the main activities in 2022 was to monitor the rights of the foreigners that came to the Republic of Moldova fleeing the military invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. Additionally, the Office of the Ombudsman made multiple proposals for the improvement of the national legislation to make sure it is aligned with the human rights standards for the international treaties.

Furthermore, the Children's Consultative Council of the People's Advocate for Children Rights aimed at strengthening the mechanism for consulting children's opinions. Another highlight of 2022 was the entry into force of the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, which often have repercussions on children with after-effects for their further development.
