MEXICO | Senate elects new President of National Human Rights Commission

Last week the Senate has elected Mr Luis Raúl González Pérez as the new President of the Mexican National Human Rights Commission (Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos, CNDH). Mr Gonzales succeeds Dr. Raul Plascencia Villanueva, whose term ended.

Luis Raul Gonzales, who worked for the government for 35 years, was elected by an overwhelming majority and will take the position as head of the Mexican Human Rights Commission when the country finds itself in the middle of a sever human rights crisis, due to the case of 43 missing students, which caused a major outrage among citizens against the government.
