UKRAINE | training seminar on equality and non-discrimination was held

The practical training seminar “Progress measurement in implementation of the legislation concerning ensuring equality and non-discrimination” took place in the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Human Rights of Ukraine.

The seminar was held within the international conference on equality and non-discrimination, which took place from 20 to 22 May 2013. The conference was jointly organized by the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Valeriya Lutkovska emphasized: “The conference serves as a good platform for discussion and helps to define which recommendations we have to give to the authorities in order to counteract discrimination in Ukraine effectively”.

The training event consisted of two modules. The first one was dedicated to the standards of carrying out assessments of normative legal acts on the observance of the principle of equality. The second one dealt with the monitoring and the investigation of cases of discrimination and crimes on the grounds of intolerance.

Commissioner Lutkovska and the Head of the anti-discrimination section of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Yuriy Boychenko participated in the training event. Also central executive authorities, judges, representatives of non-governmental public organizations took part in the training seminar.
