AUSTRIA | VISIT FROM THE MOZAMBIQUE PARLIAMENT

A delegation from the Mozambique Parliament visited the Austrian Ombudsman Board and IOI  General Secretariat on 18 January 2011 exploring possibilities for cooperation.

Although the Mozambique Constitution stipulates an independent ombudsman institution, the so called ‘justice provider’ was never enacted. As missing confidence in the national jurisdiction and the rising amount of petitions show the need for such an institution. In the meantime, the Petitions Committee of the Mozambique Parliament copes with these tasks.

MP Dr José Mateus M. Kathupa, MP Luís Júnior Dava and IOI Secretary General Peter Kostelka explored different options for strengthening the ties with the IOI on the regional as well as on the international level. On a bilateral basis the Mozambique Parliament already has long-lasting cooperation with the Austrian Parliament through its so-called “North-South Dialogue.”
