Kosovo | Working meeting of the Forum for Dialogue between the Ombudsperson’s Institution and Civil Society Organizations

The regular working meeting of the Forum for Dialogue between the Ombudsperson’s Institution and Civil Society Organizations was held on Thursday, 14 July 2023.

In this meeting, the cooperation of the Ombudsperson and civil society so far, in undertaking joint initiatives for the protection of basic human rights and freedoms in the country was highly appreciated. The Forum took a common position by agreeing to joint advocacy on current issues from the field of human rights, with the aim of advancing respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms.

The meeting also discussed and coordinated the planned joint activities and approved the work plan of the Forum for the year 2023/2024, with the aim of contributing to the promotion, protection and respect of human rights in the country.

The problems and challenges related to the issue of mental health of citizens, from different perspectives, was the main focus of the discussed issues. The discussion continued with topics covering the rights of persons with disabilities, gender equality, women’s property rights, the rights of victims of sexual violence during the liberation war in Kosovo, human rights education, respect for language rights and access to sign language, protection from violence in schools, and the rights of the LGBTI+ community.

At the meeting, some of the positions and opinions of the Ombudsperson were presented, from the reports on the investigated cases, which have recently been addressed to public institutions, and also the ex-officio cases initiated by the Ombudsperson related to issues that were discussed and raised by civil society in the joint meetings of the Forum.
