Ombudsperson Dr. iur. Karina Palkova presented the Annual Report 2025 to the Parliament (Saeima) on 21 May 2026, highlighting that 2025 was a year of significant change for the Ombudsman’s Office. Alongside its regular responsibilities, the Office focused on setting priorities, increasing openness, and taking a more proactive approach to identifying and addressing areas where the risk of human rights violations is growing.

The Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, on 25 August 2026 announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the allocation of public niches, with 19 improvement recommendations made to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department. The department has accepted all the recommendations.

PHSO's new report highlights fragmented care and regional variation in access to services alongside a more than 200% rise in complaints about ADHD and autism.   

The External Monitoring Body for Places of Deprivation of Liberty (CELPL) has been designated as the authority responsible for supervising the new Screening Centre which was established by the European Pact on Migration and Asylum. As part of this mandate, Ombudsman Claudine Konsbruck and her team carried out an initial visit to the Screening Centre on 15 June 2026. 

The Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (NIPSO) has announced the subject of its latest Own Initiative investigation. The investigation is looking into how Northern Ireland's health trusts provide care to people with a learning disability.
