Public Protector pays courtesy call on the Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs
The Public Protector, Mrs Caroline C.Z Sokoni paid a courtesy call on the Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rev Godfridah Sumaili, on Tuesday 10th July 2018. The two leaders explored among other issues ways of collaborating between the two institutions in the promotion of national values and social justice among Zambians.

NIPSO Quarterly Bulletin – October 2018

New Zealand elected to lead regional group
New Zealand’s Chief Ombudsman, Peter Boshier, has been elected to an important international role following a meeting last month of some 20 regional ombudsmen. From April next year, Mr Boshier will be the Regional President of IOI’s Australasian and Pacific Ombudsman Region (APOR). He already serves as one of three APOR Board Directors.

First Federal Ombudsman of Belgium passed away
It is with deep sadness that the IOI has learned that Mr Herman Wuyts, first Federal Ombudsman of Belgium, passed away on 27 September 2019. Mr Wuyts held the position as Regional Vice-President of the IOI’s European Region from 2000-2004. He was an esteemed colleague and our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends in this difficult time.

Ombudsmen of the Kingdom meet with the King of the Netherlands
His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands spoke with the ombudsmen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on Wednesday afternoon, 30 October. It was the first time that the ombudsmen had a joint conversation with the King. The interview was part of King Willem-Alexander's visit to the National Ombudsman.

Ombudsman institutions to be strengthened by Council of Europe recommendation
Irish Ombudsman and IOI President Peter Tyndall has warmly welcomed a Council of Europe recommendation which will further strengthen ombudsman institutions across Europe. The 47-member Council of Europe has called on member States to put in place independent ombudsman institutions with a firm legal basis and protect them when needed.
