On 13 July 2022, Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina held a getting-to-know-you meeting with Minister of Education, Science and Sport, Dr. Igor Papič, where the two men discussed a number of cases dealt with by the Ombudsman’s office and concerning the ministry’s area of work.

The Protector of Citizens determined that the Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence has brought improvements in the system of protection against violence in the family and in intimate partner relationships since the beginning of its implementation, but that there is room for additional improvements, primarily in the early response to this type of violence.

On 22 June 2022, Syed Jamalud Din shah, Provincial Ombudsman, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa presented the Annual Report 2021 before the Hon’ble Governor (Acting), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Like the previous year, 2021 also faced the menace of corona virus resulting in lock down. Despite these hinderances coupled with some other restraining factors, the team worked with zeal and did their best to achieve the set targets.

In the wake of a recent investigation by the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) into a case that identified serious concerns about the conduct of a civilian jail guard who failed to provide adequate care to a man in custody, the British Columbia (BC) Ombudsperson is renewing calls for independent oversight of jail guards in municipalities policed by the RCMP.

The report builds on the findings of a previous report, which identified and analysed the underlying causes of gaps in human rights accountability at borders.

The European Union’s Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) shares its newly published report on “Europe's civil society: still under pressure – Update 2022”. The report focuses on the key role civil society plays in fostering a rule of law culture. It cites good practice examples from across the EU.
