Ombudsman Winnie Chiu announced the completion of the direct investigation into the operational arrangements for statutory visits under the Justices of the Peace Visit Programme (“JP Visit Programme”). The Ombudsman made 13 recommendations for improvement to the Administration Wing, the Correctional Services Department, the Immigration Department, the Hospital Authority, and the Social Welfare Department.

Chief Ombudsman for New Zealand and 2^nd Vice President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) Peter Boshier visited Tonga this week (30 January to 2 February) to officially farewell Tonga Ombudsman ‘Aisea Taumoepeau, who is retiring this month after nine years of service.

IOI President and Western Australian Ombudsman Chris Field has been awarded a Public Service Medal in the 2023 Australia Day Honours List. The honour is “For outstanding public service as Ombudsman and President of the International Ombudsman Institute.”
