The Service Complaints Ombudsman for the Armed Forces (SCOAF) Annual Report 2020 was laid in Parliament today. The report is the fifth report to cover the work of the Service Complaints system and the Ombudsman’s office. There have been a number of improvements to the reformed Service Complaints system. However, the Ombudsman once more finds that the system is not yet efficient, effective and fair.

The office of the Ombudsman of Ireland successfully hosted the 12th World Conference of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) from 26 – 27 May 2021. Unfortunately, due the Covid-19 pandemic conference delegates were not able to come together and meet in Dublin in persons as originally planned. However, the Irish host delivered a professional online event, which made sure that participants enjoyed the full conference experience with remarkable speakers, interesting workshops and a wide possibility for exchange and shared learning.

On 25 May 2021 the IOI General Assembly was held by virtual means and hosted by the Office of the Irish Ombudsman Peter Tyndall. The General Assembly brought together 130 IOI member institutions to hear presentations from the IOI Board of Directors on the organization’s services, development and achievements in the past years and to adopt two major reform to the IOI By-laws, in order to guarantee that the IOI becomes a more inclusive, transparent and democratic organization.

The Canadian Council of Parliamentary Ombudsman (CCPO) issued a guidance document today aimed at provincial and territorial public sector organizations under the jurisdiction of Ombudsman across the country. This includes agencies and government ministries providing services such as public education, housing, and health services.

Le Conseil canadien des ombudsmans parlementaires (CCOP) a publié aujourd’hui un document d’orientation destiné aux organismes provinciaux et territoriaux du secteur public qui relèvent de la compétence de l’ombudsman dans l’ensemble du pays. Il est notamment question des ministères et des organismes gouvernementaux qui fournissent des services d’éducation, de logement et de santé.
