In November 2020, the newly elected Bougainville President Ishmael Toroama met with the Members of the Ombudsman Commission and its Officers to discuss among other things way forward for the creation of the Bougainville Ombudsman Commission.

The Annual Report 2018/2019 of the Chancellor of Justice gives an overview of the activities of the office in areas such as the rule of law, the rights of the child, the rights of persons with disabilities, prevention of ill-treatment, protection and promotion of human rights, and protection of privacy. Based on the ODIHR Reference Tool supporting NHRIs during public emergencies, ENNHRI and ODIHR will hold an online seminar on the “Role of NHRIs in Public Emergencies” on 11 December 2020 from 9h00 – 13h00 CET. The seminar aims to provide a step-by-step roadmap to NHRIs in situations of public emergency. Registration is now open!
