It is with great sadness that the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) has learned of the recent passing of Stephen Owen, former Ombudsman of British Columbia and former IOI President, in Vancouver at the age of 74.

A conference on "Ensuring Transparency in the Context of Business and Human Rights" was organized jointly by the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Office of the Prosecutor-General of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 23 June 2023. 

The Official Information Act (OIA) came into force 40 years ago on 1 July 1983. Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier says transparency and information access rights remain as important today as in 1983 when the OIA came into effect.
