EUROPE | European Network of Ombudsmen Newsletter April 2015

The current newsletter provides the latest updates regarding the changes within the European Network of Ombudsmen and other Ombudsman institutions in Europe.

Among others, it gives an overview about the current challenges and activities of the European Ombudsman Emily O’Rilley, from issues regarding transparency of the TTIP negotiations to whistle-blower protection, the enhanced focus on strategic inquiries in the broader public interest and the ongoing attempts to make the office of the European Ombudsman more visible.

The newsletter further provides summaries of Cases with a European Union law dimension handled by members of the European Network of Ombudsmen, such as the Collaboration between the Ombudsman of Spain and the European Ombudsman on repatriation flights coordinated by the European Agency for the Management of Operational Coordination at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union (Frontex).

The April Newsletter delivers reports on the work of the members of the European Network of Ombudsmen and of other Ombudsman institutions in Europe, i.e. the Greek Ombudsman being in defence of the legal rights of the Roma. As the authority responsible for combatting maladministration and ensuring equal treatment for the promotion and protection of citizens against discrimination, the Greek Ombudsman investigates cases pertaining to Roma people and recommends measures and means to eliminate their social exclusion.

Finally, the newsletter contains reports of seminars and meetings organised by the members of the European Network of Ombudsmen and by other Ombudsman institutions in Europe.

You can download the current reports in Englisch, French and Spanish from below.
