COVID-19 presents Iowa Ombudsman with new wave of complaints in 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic tested state and local governments in ways never imagined, and the proof was in the complaints. The Iowa Office of Ombudsman received a surge of citizen complaints on all manner of issues related to COVID: slow decisions on unemployment claims, the closure of public buildings, difficulties in access to social services – even a stoppage of garbage collection. Ombudsman Toronto to Undertake Oversight of Toronto Police
City Council on 8 April 2021 unanimously approved the biggest change in police oversight in Toronto's recent history. It asked Ombudsman Toronto to develop a Memorandum of Understanding with the Toronto Police Services Board and the Toronto Police Service, giving the Toronto Ombudsman authority to review the fairness of Toronto Police procedures and programs.
