Austrian Ombudsman Board achieves A status accreditation with GANHRI
In April 2022, the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB) was officially recognized as A status institution by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI). The AOB is now one of 90 out of 130 institutions worldwide that are fully compliant with the ‘Principles Relating to the Status of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs)’ (“Paris Principles”).

Federal Ombudsman presents annual report 2021
On 2 May 2022, the Federal Ombudsman published its 2021 Annual Report and presented it to the Chamber of Representatives. The Office opened 8,202 files in 2021, which is a 20 % increase compared to 2019. In 2021, 1 complaint in 5 was still coronavirus related. Complaints about unemployment benefits continued to be rife.

Rafael Ribó concludes his mandate as Catalan ombudsman
Rafael Ribó was elected síndic for the first time in July 2004 and was re-elected in 2010. Ribó has been a member of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) since 2006, holding various positions.

IOI President meets Chief Minister Sindh and addresses Launching Ceremony of a Research Study undertaken by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh
President Field’s first morning in Karachi commenced with meeting the Chief Minister Sindh, His Excellency Syed Murad Ali Shah. His Excellency and President Field enjoyed a warm exchange and President Field was honoured that His Excellency presented him a traditional Sindhi cap and Ajrak, which President Field wore with great pride during his address at the Launching Ceremony of the Research Study “Assessment of Malnutrition (Stunting) in District Tharparkar” held in the main hall of the Chief Minister’s House.

CY Committee on Educational and Cultural Affairs Focusing on Achievements in Earthquake Engineering Research and Volcanic Monitoring
The Control Yuan Educational and Cultural Committee conducted circuit supervision on 24 April 2023, led by convener Pasuya Poiconx, accompanied by CY Vice-President Lee Hung-chun and a delegation of Control Yuan members. They visited the Taipei Laboratory of the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) and the Taiwan Volcano Observatory at Tatun as well as the Xiaoyoukeng Volcano Continuous Gas Monitoring Station.

Globally Sharing Public Institution Comprehensive Integrity Assessment
Korea’s anti-corruption policies, including the Public Institution Comprehensive Integrity Assessment, were introduced to 189 State Parties during the United Nations Convention against Corruption meeting held in Vienna, from June 12 to 16, 2023. The ACRC shared Korea’s anti-corruption policies and engaged in discussions on internationally pending issues relating to anti-corruption at the 14th UNCAC Implementation Review Group and the 14th Working Group on Prevention meeting.

Chief Ombudsman publishes OIA and LGOIMA complaints information January 2023 - June 2023
The Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier has published his half-yearly data on Official Information Act (OIA) and Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA) complaints. The data covers the number of complaints received under each Act for the period 1 January 2023 to 30 June 2023, as well as the number of complaints completed by the Ombudsman during this period.

Parliamentary Committee on Human and National Minority Rights Votes in Favor of the Ombudswoman’s 2022 Annual Report
At its session held on 18 October 2023, the Committee on Human and National Minority Rights of the Croatian Parliament unanimously voted in favor of the Ombudswoman’s Annual Report 2022. Parliamentary members of the Committee pointed out that the Report is comprehensive and well-argued, as well as that the analyses, data and the conclusions it contains are widely read and used.

Malawi Parliament passes Ombudsman (Amendment) Bill
On 7 December 2023, the Malawi Parliament passed the Ombudsman (Amendment) Bill 2023 after close to one and half hours of scrutiny. This bill seeks to amend the Ombudsman Act (Cap. 3:07) in order to clarify and strengthen the legal framework of the jurisdiction and mandate of the Ombudsman.
