The African Ombudsman Research Centre (AORC) has identified the issue of 'Effective Investigation strategies - building blocks, methods/tools' as one of the training priorities required by African Ombudsman. In responding to this need, AORC cordially invites Ombudsman colleagues and their staff to a webinar on 14 June 2022.

In this Bulletin NIPSO provides an update on their work to introduce common standards for complaints handling in the public sector. They also feature some of the latest investigations that they have carried out over the last few months.

The Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, today (May 26) announced at a press conference the completion of a direct investigation into the regulation of paragliding activities by the Civil Aviation Department (“CAD”), and made eight recommendations for improvement to the CAD.

Recently, the Control Yuan (CY) published the 2021 Annual Report. For the whole of 2021, the CY received 14,403 people’s complaints; issued 244 investigation reports; passed 16 impeachment cases and 1 censure case; and proposed 78 corrective measures cases. The Annual Report also includes 6 case summaries, which are categorized into public expenditures, upholding discipline and safeguarding human rights.

The 13^th World Conference of the International Ombudsman Institute will be hosted by the National Ombudsman of the Netherlands and held in The Hague, between 13 and 17 May 2024. 

It is with great concern that the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) has followed recent developments at the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine that have resulted to the dismissal of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms Liudmyla Denisova.

The Chief Ombudsman, Peter Boshier, was in March elected as Second Vice President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). Mr Boshier has served on the board of the IOI, a global organisation made up of more than 200 independent ombudsman institutions from more than 100 countries, since 2016. The Ombudsman New Zealand has been a part of the IOI since its inception in 1978.
