In its efforts to further increase the regional impact of the IOI, the members of the IOI Board of Directors decided at the ir online Board meeting held in May 2021 to continue the regional subsidy programme for the membership year 2021/2022. Instituions are kindly invited to send project proposals for regional subsidies to the IOI General Secretariat by 11 October 2021.

The Western Australian Ombudsman has tabled his 2020-21 annual report in Parliament. The report outlines the work of the Office for the year, in which 96% of complaints were finalised within three months.

This year, the Fundamental Rights Forum, organised by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), will take place from 11 – 12 October 2021. This leading human rights event will take place in Vienna City Hall and online and registration for the various sessions is now open.

The protection of the rights of children and youths in Taiwan should be in line with international standards, and the securing of their personal safety is an even more pressing concern. To effectively prevent these young people suffering sexual assaults, Control Yuan (CY) urged the government to examine the existing mechanisms by launching an investigation entitled “Discussion on the Effectiveness of the Government’s Implementation of Preventing the Sexual Assault of Children and Youths.”

On 7 August 2021, the Ombudsman of Angola and Cape Verde signed a cooperation agreement with the aim of strengthening the relationship between the two institutions and encouraging the exchange of experiences for the defence of citizens' rights, freedom and guarantees.
