The South Australian Ombudsman’s 2018-19 Annual Report was tabled in parliament today. Mr Wayne Lines reported his Office responded to over 4000 complaints about state and local government.

The Danish Parliament, Folketinget, has elected Dr. jur. Niels Fenger as new Parliamentary Ombudsman. He will succeed Mr. Jørgen Steen Sørensen who has taken up an appointment as a Justice of the Danish Supreme Court.

Since 1 December 2019 British Colombia, Canada, has a new law that gives current and former provincial government employees a way to bring forward concerns about wrongdoing in workplace. The Public Interest Disclosure Act gives the Ombudsperson a new statutory mandate to conduct whistleblowing investigations if employees do not wish to report those concerns internally to their employer.

It gives an overview of the activities of the Chancellor of Justice in the areas such as the rule of law, the rights of the child, the rights of persons with disabilities, prevention of ill-treatment, protection and promotion of human rights, protection of privacy, and many others.
