The Portuguese Ombudsman, Maria Lúcia Amaral, concluded the proceedings for compensation to the relatives and heirs of the five mortal victims of the collapse of the Municipal Road 255, which took place on November 19, 2018, in the borough of Borba, Portugal.

Azerbaijan Child and Peace Network (ACYPN) and the Resource Center of the Ombudsman on Child Rights held an event on the occasion of 5 June- World Environment Day as previous years. The aim of the event was to educate children in the spirit love to the environment, efficient use of our natural resources, shaping their ecological consciousness, also preservation of biological diversity.

On June 13, 2019, the Québec Ombudsman released a special report on the numerous violations by the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation (MAPAQ) in applying the Act to facilitate the disclosure of wrongdoings relating to public bodies. It dealt with deficiencies concerning the internal process for handling disclosures.

Dans un rapport rendu public le 13 juin 2019, le Protecteur du citoyen du Québec fait état de nombreux manquements de la part du ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation (MAPAQ) dans l’application de la Loi facilitant la divulgation d’actes répréhensibles à l’égard des organismes publics. Les manquements portent sur le processus interne de traitement des divulgations.

This policy report calls for a fundamental rethink of the international compliance system: instead of the three main implementation mechanisms being perceived (and, in the case of Treaty Bodies and Special Procedures, perceiving of themselves) as separate, distinct, unconnected and – even – as operating in tension; they should be seen as three complementary parts of a single human rights compliance engine.
