Seimas Ombudsmen's Office publishes Annual Report 2016
The Seimas Ombudsmen's Office of the Republic of Lithuania has been defending human rights and freedoms and investigating complaints about the abuse of office by or bureaucracy of state and municipal officials and since 2014 has been monitoring human rights at places of detention. The Ombudsman Institution has now published its Annual Report of the year 2016, detailing its activities and initiatives.

Queensland Ombudsman supporting partner of Australian Public Sector Anti-Corruption Conference
The Queensland Ombudsman is a proud partner supporting the Australian Public Sector Anti-Corruption Conference (APSACC) to be held 15-16 November. APSACC is Australia’s premier corruption and misconduct prevention forum. Ombudsman investigation finds that women wrongly excluded from Magdalen scheme
An investigation by Ombudsman Peter Tyndall has found that some women who worked in the Magdalen laundries have been wrongly refused access to the Magdalen Restorative Justice scheme. In his report ‘Opportunity Lost’, issued today, the Ombudsman also criticises other aspects of the Department of Justice and Equality’s administration of the scheme.

Study visit by Sorbonne International Administration Student Association
On 11 December 2017 a group of the Sorbonne International Administration Student Association visited the headquarters of the International Ombudsman Institute in Vienna. The purpose of the visit was to gain an insight into the functioning of this global organization. IOI Secretary General Günther Kräuter answered the many questions this interested study group posed.

European Region elects new Director
The term of Ms Lucia Franchini as Ombudsman of Tuscany (Italy) ended and as a result, the position of one European Director on the IOI Board of Directors became vacant. According to the European regional by-laws one of the Directors at the European regional Board, Ms Ülle Madise, Chancellor of Justice of Estonia, took over the vacant seat at the IOI Board and elections were held to fill the vacant position on the European regional Board.

Council of Europe presents action plan on protecting refugee and migrant children
The mass arrivals in Europe of people fleeing from danger in their countries put children in a very vulnerable situation. They are exposed to the risk of physical violence, sexual abuse and psychological suffering in addition to material hardship. Whether they are refugees or migrants, children are at the centre of all Council of Europe actions involving migratory issues.

Makueni County Residents Offered Free Legal Services
As part of its strategies to contribute towards realisation of the right to access to justice by Kenyans, the Commission has carried out free legal aid forums in Makueni County. The public forums, conducted in three different towns, are aimed at creating and enhancing citizens’ awareness on administrative justice and on their right to access to information and how it promotes access to justice.
