Adv. Basilius Dyakugha, who was appointed as the 7^th Ombudsman of Namibia in October 2021, presented the office’s Annual Report for 2021/2022. The Annual Report informs about the office's maldaministration cases, its monitoring of places of detention, the work of the Children's Advocate, as well as the Ombudsman's environmental mandate.

It has existed in many countries for several decades as an alternative to the classic complaint handling procedure. On 5 January 2023, Mr. Virgílio da Silva Guterres was appointed as the new Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice (Provedor dos Direitos Humanos e Justiçe, PDHJ) of Timor-Leste for a five-year term.

The European Commission will strengthen its monitoring of the implementation of the EU’s data protection law. This comes after the Irish Council for Civil Liberties complained that the Commission was not collecting sufficient information to be able to properly assess the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Ireland.
