Seven months after the Premier’s historic apology to the Sons of Freedom Doukhobor survivors and their families in the BC legislature, the BC Ombudsperson is pleased to learn survivors of detention at New Denver in the 1950s are finally being compensated for government’s actions.

In his campaign to promote and strengthen administrative justice, accountability and good governance in Sierra Leone, the Ombudsman Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq called on Paramount Chiefs in the Southern Region to uphold justice, accountability and good governance within their Districts, Chiefdoms and localities. He made this statement whilst addressing Paramount Chiefs, District Chairpersons, Mayors and other galaxy of eminent people and government functionaries at the Human Capital Development Advocacy Meeting held at the Moyamba District Council Hall.

The Office of the Ombudsman recognized integrity champions of the youth during its Campus Integrity Crusaders Awards Ceremony on 30 August 2024. Spearheaded by Deputy Ombudsman Jose Balmeo, Jr., Assistant Ombudsman Janina Hidalgo and Director Rhodora Fenix-Galicia, the Office awarded seven outstanding school organizations for the successful implementation of its enrolled activities promoting integrity, social responsibility and gender and development.

The Ombudsperson participated in the 57th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council by intervening in a panel discussion, which took place on September 11, 2024, in Geneva, on how to “Promote and protect economic, social and cultural rights in the context of combating inequalities”.

Almost half a million pounds in compensation has been secured following investigations by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman for people wrongly denied payment by the Windrush Compensation Scheme.

The Chief Ombudsman’s latest self-initiated investigations into official information practices will include two council-controlled organisations for the first time. Peter Boshier has announced investigations of Auckland Transport and Wellington Water along with the Wellington City Council, Queenstown Lakes District Council and Marlborough District Council.
