On 8 June 2021 the African Ombudsman Research Centre (AORC), in collaboration with the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), organized an online discussion on the topic of “Systemic Investigations”. Chris Field, President of the International Ombudsman Institute and Western Australian Ombudsman, delivered an opening address to the 3rd Latin American Restorative Justice Congress.

Este jueves se llevó a cabo la primera de tres jornadas del Congreso que se plantea bajo el lema “Justicia Restaurativa y Derechos Humanos: Promoviendo Prácticas Restaurativas como Políticas Públicas”. El flamante presidente del Instituto Internacional del Ombudsman (IIO), Chris Field destacó en su mensaje grabado que los ombudmans juegan un papel muy importante en todo el mundo y celebró la realización del Congreso.

The Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman, Margaret Kelly, has today called for a culture change in the way public bodies in Northern Ireland deal with complaints from members of the public. Her comments came as a new survey showed two thirds of people who were dissatisfied with the level of service from a public body said they would not complain as they thought it would make no difference or be too trivial.

Officers of the Ombudsman undertook a short training on how Intelligence could be used to help boost their investigations. The training was coordinated by the Director of the National Intelligence Unit, Superintendent Frazer Tambe.

The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) of the Republic of Korea will run an online training course for three days from May 25, 2021 to share its anti-corruption polices and experiences with countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Complaints to Ombudsman Peter Tyndall about public services, such as those provided by government departments, local authorities and the HSE, remained high in 2020 despite the pandemic.
