On 14 December 2018 IOI Secretary Günther Kräuter welcomed Ombudsman of the Vorarlberg region in Austria, Mr Florian Bachmayr-Heyda, as new Voting member of the IOI.

After having invited the Austrian Ombudsman Board to visit a Hungarian correctional institution last year, the Hungarian Ombudsman László Székely came to visit the correctional institution Eisenstadt together with a delegation of the Austrian Ombudsman Board from the area of competence of Ombudswoman Gertrude Brinek, on December 12th.

Ms. Connie Lau, The Ombudsman of Hong Kong, presented her annual report at the Legislative Council meeting held on 7 December 2018.

General Viddhavat Rajatanun was appointed Chief Ombudsman of Thailand following the Royal Appointment granted by His Majesty the King Mahavajiralongkorn on November 18, 2018.

 

The 40^th Annual Conference of the United States Ombudsman Association (USOA) will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii from 18 – 20 September 2019. The conference is hosted by the Office of the Ombudsman of Hawaii, since 2019 also marks the 50^th anniversary of the institution.

Ombudsman Deborah Glass is to investigate Wellington Shire Council’s handling of matters affecting land owners in the Ninety Mile Beach area of Gippsland.
