Ombudsman completes investigation on regulations by the Food and Environment Hygiene Department
On 14 December 2023, the Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, announced the completion of a direct investigation into the regulation by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (“FEHD”) over the sale of food in hot/cold holding and non-prepackaged beverages by means of vending machines, and made ten recommendations for improvement to FEHD.

Federal Ombudsman received highest ever number of complaints in 2020
The Federal Ombudsman Syed Tahir Shahbaz has said that his office received the highest ever number of complaints during 2020 as 133,521 complaints and disposed of 130,112 complaints. He said that this was the result of its robust awareness campaign launched in the entire country especially in the far flung areas of Pakistan.

The Seimas Ombudsman‘s Office has Submitted the Activity Report of the year 2020
The Seimas Ombudsman’s Office – the National Human Rights Institution – has submitted its Activity Report of 2020 to the Seimas highlighting human rights concerns of the last year. The COVID-19 pandemic, which shook the world in 2020, also impacted the activities of the Seimas Ombudsman, who repeatedly noted that during the pandemic it was especially important to ensure that residents of care homes and convicts had the opportunity to keep in touch with their family members. In other cases, when it was established that certain rights of individuals were violated due to the conditions of the pandemic, own-initiative investigations were started.

Violations against persons with a mental disorder considered in a special report
At a press conference held at the premises of the Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia on Tuesday, 5 September 2017, Human Rights Ombudsman Vlasta Nussdorfer and Deputy Ombudsman Ivan Šelih presented a special report, which the Ombudsman had sent to the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia the previous day. The report considers the issue of overcrowded secure wards in social care institutions (particularly special social care institutions) and difficulties faced by persons with a mental disorder in these wards, drawing attention to violations of their right to personal dignity.

Ombudsman finds that rights of incapacitated individuals are still unduly restricted

Human Rights Ombudsman with the Paris Principles’ highest status
The Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia has received “A” status accreditation according to the Paris Principles, which relate to the status and functioning of national human rights institutions. This is the highest attainable status according to the Principles, which were adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1993.
