The Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman has received more than 100 complaints related to the state of emergency and the coronavirus pandemic. The complaints have concerned all branches of administration. Many of the complaints are related to health care, social welfare and social insurance. The Office has also begun working on several issues at its own initiative.

Since the beginning of Coronavirus lockdowns, police, women shelters and NGOs have reported a surge in domestic violence, especially violence targeting women. The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) and the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) call on the EU and the Member States to use the coronavirus pandemic as an opportunity to step up their efforts to effectively protect women's rights.

Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO) Rosemary Agnew laid her Strategic Plan for 2020-2024 before the Scottish Parliament. In it the Ombudsman sets out her vision for the delivery of the SPSO’s functions under the strategic themes of accessibility, access to justice, capacity and standards.

In a special report the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland, Marie Anderson, evaluates the impact of the introduction of Body Worn Video (BWV) on complaints about the Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI). In two parts the report provides statistical and qualitative analysis and shows a number of case studies to identify instances when the new technology helped the Ombudsman’s investigations as well as instances when it did not.
