Ombudsman’s report on policing intoxicated and disorderly conduct
In 2014 the New South Wales Ombudsman completed a review of the operation of the offence of continuing to be intoxicated and disorderly in public. This section provides for police to issue a person with an on-the-spot fine or charge the person for continuing to be intoxicated and disorderly after the person has already been given an opportunity to comply with a formal move on direction from police. The Ombudsman’s final report was tabled in Parliament in 2014.

Celebration of 25th Jubilee from adoption of Convention of the Rights of the Child
A celebration of the 25th year from the adoption of the Convention on the rights of the child was hosted by UNICEF in cooperation with the Ombudsman in Skopje. At the celebration the new interactive online game about the Convention on the rights of the child, which was produced by UNICEF, was promoted. Through this game children can learn about their rights and the mechanisms for their protection.

Ombudsman’s staff attends training on monitoring the rights of the child
In recent days, the Ombudsman Office in coordination with UNICEF country office launched five day training on increasing capacities to monitor the child rights for the members of the national preventive group and heads of the Regional Offices of the Ombudsman. UNICEF international experts Mr. Reider Hiermann and Ms. Anna Nordenmark were involved into this event as trainers.

Follow-up NPM workshop in Vilnius from 21-23 June 2016
The IOI is pleased to inform its members that the training cooperation established with the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) will find its continuation in a follow-up NPM workshop with a special focus on the monitoring of psychiatric facilities. The workshop will be hosted by the Seimas Ombudsmen’s Office of the Republic of Lithuania in Vilnius from 21 to 23 June 2016 and registration is now open.
