Teresa Anjinho elected as new European Ombudsman (2025-2029)
Teresa Anjinho has been elected European Ombudsman by the European Parliament with 344 votes in favour. Ms Anjinho will take office on 27 February 2025.

Alberta Ombudsman Button leaves I.O.I. Board
Alberta Ombudsman Gord Button resigned from his position as a Director representing the North American Region on the Board of Directors of the I.O.I. In the previous membership year Gord Button acted as Treasurer of the I.O.I. and significantly contributed to the success of the Institute.

SYT II Training in Vienna about to begin!
Following the successful first I.O.I. edition of the "Sharpening Your Teeth"-Training that was attended by 38 participants from 17 different states, the I.O.I. has organised a second SYT training which will be held from 5 to 8 June 2011 at the I.O.I. General Secretariat in Vienna, Austria.

The Bylaws, Membership & Governance Committee, appointed during the Vienna meeting of the I.O.I. Board of Directors in 2009, held a meeting at the I.O.I. General Secretariat in Vienna on 27 May 2011. I.O.I. President Beverley A. Wakem chaired the Committee session.

I.O.I. World Conference 2012 - new website
The 10th I.O.I.World Conference, to be held in Wellington, New Zealand from 13 to 16 November 2012, will provide Ombudsmen from around the world with the opportunity to meet, share their experience and engage in fruitful debate and discussion. The conference website has been recently launched.

I.O.I. representatives have reacted to the tragic events in Norway expressing their solidarity. In communications to the Norwegian Ombudsman and member of the European I.O.I. Board Arne Fliflet I.O.I. President Beverley Wakem, I.O.I. MID-TERM MEETING OF THE IOI BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The IOI Board of Directors agreed to hold a mid-term working meeting from 7 to 8 May 2012 in Hong Kong, which is generously hosted by IOI Treasurer and Hong Kong Ombudsman Alan N. Lai. The primary focus of this meeting will be on the results of the regional consultation on the by-laws reform and preparations for the upcoming IOI World Conference.

Regional consultation on the new draft by-laws has started in February 2012. Members are invited to thoroughly consider the draft by-laws and to send comments and remarks to the competent Regional Vice-President and the Secretary General until 30 March 2012.

The 9th thematic workshop “Irregular migrants, Frontex and the NPMs”, the final workshop within the framework of the Council of Europe's "Peer to Peer II" project was held in Belgrade 12-13 June 2012. The event assembling several ombudsman institutions was hosted by the Protector of Citizens of the Republic of Serbia.
