Mr. Howard Sapers has been reappointed as the Correctional Investigator of Canada by the Minister of Public Safety. MID-TERM MEETING OF THE IOI BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The IOI Board of Directors agreed to hold a mid-term working meeting from 7 to 8 May 2012 in Hong Kong, which is generously hosted by IOI Treasurer and Hong Kong Ombudsman Alan N. Lai. The primary focus of this meeting will be on the results of the regional consultation on the by-laws reform and preparations for the upcoming IOI World Conference.

Constultations on new Act on police investigations
The Québec Ombudsperson appeared before the National Assembly Committee on Institutions for consultations on a bill respecting independent police investigations. She gave nine recommendations to improve Bill 46 in the interest of the public and the police.

Diplomat violated human rights
A former Taiwanese diplomat was arrested in Kansas City, USA, on charges of violating US federal labor law. The Control Yuan investigation concluded that the underpaying and possibly overworking of housekeepers were clearly against human rights and that obvious administrative mistakes had occurred.
